When detailing your Tesla, be sure to check the Tesla owner's manual for a complete set of directions for washing. Below are our 5 tips when washing your Tesla vehicle.
Use a no-contact form of washing. One of the best options for this is a no-contact foam cannon using an eco-friendly foam soap (We use and recommend Gyeon Bathe and Foam). Be sure to rinse your Tesla with water first, then lather up your Tesla with the foam cannon. Letting it sit for 5 minutes will allow for an easier hand wash. Be sure to rinse off all the soap with a pressure washer at the end.
Turn on car wash mode if possible. Some Teslas feature a car wash mode that will close all the windows, lock the charge port door and disable the windshield wipers. To do this, you can go to controls→ service → car wash mode. The vehicle must be in park and not actively charging.
Buff off any fingerprints on screens with a high quality microfiber towel. Steer clear of any abrasive products or alcohol to clean the screens. When you wash the microfiber towels, always wash and dry in cool or room-temp temperatures to prevent fraying the protective microfiber hairs.
Remove any exterior decontaminants (i.e. sap, bird droppings, etc) on your paint as soon as possible. If left on the surface too long, these items will latch onto the paint and become very difficult to get off.
Make your detailing about the glass. One of the nicest features of Teslas is their glass panoramic views. You'll need to get serious about your glass cleaning product and towels if you want a professional finish. We recommend waffle weave towels and Gyeon Glass Cleaner. Be sure to double check the glass for minor blemishes and smears after your first attempt. It's totally normal to have to clean the glass twice!
